The Château Forever continued
I think I enjoyed their first book, ‘A Year at the Château’ the most. They were probably humbler and more relatable. I know they grafted and had to make hard life decisions to live the dream like that looks like a fairy tale now. Their issues were more relatable (for example, putting in a new heating system) then than their later life projects.
I love that each book shares both perspectives (his and hers) and include recipes and you can feel daily life moving forward and be involved with their French life and its customs. I like that they have started ‘Strawbridge Family traditions’ – that’s what the children will remember.
“The Château – Forever Home”, my most recent read in the series, did not keep my attention like previous books. Maybe I have changed but the book seemed to hurry along, with bad times (that we all have) glossed over with a touch of Château ‘fairy dust’ and it was all adventures and good times. They must have a massive team behind them doing a lot of the work as they jump from project to project, I suppose to keep us readers interested.
In my own life, I was a bit sad when I was reading this book. I found the upbeat cheerfulness a bit much and tended to read for a bit and then come back to it. I did love the photos and seeing their children grow.
It seems strange to say that they look like they are living an amazing life now, but I think I enjoyed the challenges and courage of their earlier times a bit more.
Loved the title, ‘Forever Home’ and their messaging that they will never leave; all they are doing is for their children.
Well done Dick and Angel. You have had the courage to create the live you want and isn’t that what we all would like to do?
