Toute Allure – a review
Karen left behind her glitzy, busy and hectic lifestyle job as a fashion editor partly to try and get over a devastating break up from her former French boyfriend! She felt the time was right now to up sticks and move into her dream (badly run down) house which she had so bravely bought a year ago.
She went on to renovate her house (which she called 'Maison Coquelicot') in Poiteau Charente, central France and all that entailed financially and, not least, emotionally. In doing so, Karen met lots of locals who helped her out with many inevitable problems she had and made some very special friends. And of course she learnt a lot of French very quickly!
Now she is back in France again, having attended another work assignment in the UK.
As her new book, Toute Allure, explains, Karen was looking forward to happily returning to her beloved house, 'Maison Coquelicot', and the pending peaceful rural surroundings.
She is somewhat aghast to find her peace is shattered when she realises she has some new Portugese macho builders living next door to her, who seem to like lots of BBQ's and playing loud music into the small hours of every day!
Trying to ignore all of this she busies herself with writing articles for publishers, gardening etc. but, not being able to concentrate, she goes for long walks to avoid the noise of the music next door. She meets up with her good French friends for coffee, and with their insistence she also found herself trying out Line dancing; anything to escape the noise next door and, to her amazement, she finds that she absolutely loves it!
Karen also meets her true love! Ready to please her every whim, the two of them are inseparable - going everywhere together!
I suppose, at this point, I ought to mention that Karen's new love has gorgeous dark shaggy hair, loving eyes.......
...... 4 paws and a very wet nose!
Having totally immersed herself in French life and enjoying every minute of it with her beloved 'Biff' by her side, she realises she feels she has near enough found her 'paradise' but then, something happened that would change her life forever........ But I'm going to be mean and not tell you what that something is! Why don't you just go and buy a copy of 'Toute Allure' for yourself, pour yourself a nice large glass of wine, put your feet up (be it on a chair, in the bath, or chilling out on the beach). I guarantee you a rewarding, unputdownable great read! A bien tot! |
