But, to assume this is a treatise for Francophiles is to miss the whole point of this book. It is not an instruction manual for home buyers, neither is it a travelogue. Instead, what George East delivers is a rivetting good laugh, sometimes at the expense of the characters he encounters, but more often at his own undoubtedly bruised ego! George's characters are never clichés, many of his situations are all too familiar to owners of maisons secondaires and one is left with the feeling that you have joined George on his French adventure. |
